Seth smiled at his cameraman. “Did you film from the beginning?”

“Yeah, I sure did. Fuck, that was the most sensual show I’ve ever seen.”

“Good. Set it up in a clip for me. This is for their private use. They might have made the show, but they need to see it.” Seth tugged at his leathers that had grown very tight, watching the lovers.

“I need to find a sub. Fast.”

Chapter Twelve

“She wrote you a letter?” Colt drawled, as he searched Nolan’s face. There was a noticeable difference in him now—a relaxed calm to his voice that hinted at the confidence and power of a man who had discovered something of a greater value than the mundane nature of personal conquests.

“Are you sure she was the one who wrote it?” Skepticism radiated from his words, resulting in a twinge of irritation that expressed itself in a frown on Nolan’s face. Colt sighed, saying quietly, “Corruption is defined as the chaos that we look back on to learn from, Nol, yet you can’t argue that the present is just as depraved, if not more so. Case in point—Sharon writing you all of a sudden? Writing and mailing a letter? With all the technology at hand she could’ve used to reach you easier and faster?”

Nolan closed his eyes and inhaled deeply as he tried to quell the anger that seemed perpetually on the boil when Sharon was the topic of discussion. That electrically-charged feeling of being amped-up on anxiety was steadily taking its toll as others felt more comfortable in openly scorning his association with Sharon in the most unvarnished vernacular.

It was a lonely place—being the only one fighting for her redemption, to be standing like a lone sentinel, while everyone continued to voice their misgivings with unreserved derision. Some of it had found purchase in his own wavering belief of what the truth was and what had driven her back into his life.

Why was it so difficult for them to understand that irrespective of all that, I feel responsible for her? Nolan raked his hand through his hair, tired of the constant emotional strain since his return. He was aware that the tension was a result of constantly subjugating his anger against the flippant and often callous remarks from ignorant ‘caring’ friends whom, if found in similar circumstances, would act similarly. Keeping himself glued together long enough until he could uncover the truth, was going to require an extra thick skin.

To listen ... fuck ... always having to feel a need to defend her while denying my own impulsive decision to take the trip to Anacapri at the same time ... who am I kidding?

“Yeah, I recognized her handwriting. Kent was there when I confronted her. There was no hesitation from her when I asked about it.”

“May I see it?”

“It’s in my office.” Nolan said as he rose, conscious of Colt watching him go.

“What are you thinking, Colt?” Seth asked. He found it disconcerting that he was having difficulty reading the man in front of him.
